Rebalanced Abilities
Some players feel that Pluto is too powerful and Earth too weak.
J. Edward Tremlett suggests in his Pyramid review to remove Pluto's Wormhole Generator and to let Earth start with two spaceships and begin collecting population immediately.
Another possibility is to have the auto-repair aspect of Pluto's Robotic ability apply only to attacks and not to Zap cards. For Earth, make the Secret Underground Refuge invulnerable, and allow Earth to build spaceships there (they could move to any Earth area from the refuge).
A smaller tweak would be to give Pluto's Disintegration Ray only two attack dice instead of three, and to give Earth Genius Pills to start with.
Recycle Zap Cards
If you prefer a fast and furious style of play with Zap cards flying left and right, try the following variant:
As soon as the last Zap card is played and its effects resolved, shuffle all the Zap cards together and deal them out again. Each player immediately draws three cards to form a new hand.
You cannot reshuffle your own Zap cards as soon as you run out -- you must wait until everyone else uses all their Zap cards as well. This allows players who wish to conserve their cards for maximum effect the opportunity to do so.
This will usually prolong the game, since Zap cards provide more opportunities for leader-bashing.
